Placement of breast prosthesis via lower hemi-areolar approach
24 August 2015What is a mini abdominoplasty?
6 July 2016Axillary prosthesis installation, that is to say in the hollow of the armpit, was developed by a French surgeon (doctor TROQUES). It remains feasible today, but other techniques have emerged, such as Breast Augmentation by the hemiareolar route or even by the inframammary route. It is important that you are aware of the different ways of proceeding in order to make an informed choice because each technique has its advantages and disadvantages.
What is the axillary route?
Axillary is an anatomy term. Axillary refers to the structures located in the armpit. The axillary fossa is pyramidal. This area serves to vascularize, drain and communicate with the upper limb. This area is used as a passageway to perform breast augmentation. The axillary fossa almost completely disappears when the arm is in complete abduction. Stimulation of this area generally results in a reflex of arm withdrawal in order to protect it.
Advantages of the axillary surgical technique
1 – The scar, generally a maximum length of 4 cm in the hollow of the axillary area, remains very discreet and almost disappears after a year. In complete abduction it will even be difficult to perceive the scar left by the operation.
2 – The halos retain their sensitivity
3 – No discomfort will be felt during breastfeeding
Disadvantages of this type of breast surgery
This technique requires great rigor at the time of the intervention. This is why it is important to take into consideration the experience of your cosmetic surgeon.
1 – Recovery time is longer (variable depending on the person and state of health)
2 – A compression dressing is placed after the procedure and must be kept on for at least 1 to 2 weeks. I suggest wearing a bra without underwire for 2 months.
3 – Do exercises approximately 3 weeks to 1 month after the procedure
4 – This technique, commonly called “blind technique”, can lead to bleeding from blood vessels.
5 – The axillary route can generally only be used once
Although this technique has proven itself, new ways of performing breast surgery have emerged. The great advantage of this technique lies solely in the absence of scarring on the breast.
Example of discussion on the choice of different techniques:
On the feminine forum site you will be able to get a good idea of the type of discussion concerning the choice of one technique rather than another, for example what is the best axillary or peri-areolar method?
To summarize:
- No scar on the breast
- Very discreet scar under the armpit
- No loss of breast sensitivity
- Difficulty of intervention
- The implant change will result in a new scar
- Pain
- The process explained by Dre Duclos
It is possible to perform a breast implant operation in three ways:
- by the axillary route (scar under the armpit),
- via the areolar route (at the nipple) or
- with the inframammary route with a scar under the breast.
