What are the advantages?
Some men may find that, even with physical activity, they are unable to develop the pecs they desire. Inserting implants helps improve the appearance of the torso.
Is it for me?
Enlargement of the pectorals can improve your physical appearance and your self-confidence. However, it does not change the relationships you have with others. Before opting for this intervention, clarify your expectations and discuss them with Dre Duclos. She will be happy to answer clearly and precisely all your questions and to inform you about the most appropriate treatments for your situation. telling you their advantages and disadvantages.
What techniques are used?
Pectoral augmentation is an increasingly popular procedure. It consists of introducing an implant under the pectoral muscle through an incision in the armpit.
What should I expect?
During your consultation, Dr. Duclos will assess your state of health and your expectations and will recommend the surgical technique most appropriate to your situation. It will tell you the exact location of the incisions, the location of the implant as well as the type and diameter of the implant. She will also explain the risks inherent to the procedure, provide you with information on its progress, generally under general anesthesia, and give you pre- and post-operative instructions.
Before the operation, you will need to obtain a chest sleeve for the day of the operation. You will then be under observation until your condition allows you to leave the clinic. A prescription for pain medication, instructions and the date of the next appointment will be given to you before your departure. Plan to ask someone to drive you home.
During the 48 hours following the procedure, you will need to take your pain medication regularly to relieve the pain, which is generally quite severe.
You will need to keep the dressing and the sheath until your follow-up visit, taking care not to get them wet (Dre Duclos will tell you when you can take a shower). You will need to wear the girdle constantly for two to four weeks.
You must avoid lifting your arms above your shoulders during the first two weeks and will not be able to do intense physical exercises for a month. You will also need to avoid exposing the scar to sunlight or tanning salon rays for about six months.
What are the risks?
Any intervention carries risks. Bleeding, hematoma, poor healing or infection may occur. If the infection reaches the implant, it will need to be removed and put back several weeks later, once the infection is under control. A seroma (accumulation of serous fluid in tissue) may occur and require drainage.
During surgery, if bleeding occurs, it may be necessary to make another incision in the anterior chest to repair the responsible vessel and stop the bleeding.
Even if the implants are perfectly placed, contraction of the pectoral muscles can cause displacement, causing asymmetry. Another surgery may be necessary to try to correct the situation.
Shrinkage of the envelope surrounding the implant (fibrous capsule) can cause changes in the shape of the breast, hardening or pain. This situation, which occurs rarely, can be treated by releasing the fibrous capsule through excision or by replacing the implant. However, this complication can recur.
Skin sensitivity of the chest and arm may decrease. This change in sensitivity is usually temporary, but it can be permanent.
