A breast lift is also possible for men. This may be required after, for example, weight loss or due to the gradual loss of skin elasticity. The skin then slackens. The healing is usually of very good quality and is naturally hidden by the hairs present in greater number with age.

What is rectus diastasis?

Diastasis rectus abdominis, also called diastasis recti, is a condition in which the rectus abdominal muscles separate along the midline of the abdomen. This creates a space or gap between the muscles, which can give the appearance of a hollow or bulging stomach.

Diastasis occurs when there is relaxation of the abdominal wall, the muscles are weak due to lack of training or following trauma or surgery. Generally diastasis is caused by pregnancy especially a twin pregnancy, as the expansion of the uterus can create pressure on the abdominal muscles. However, diastasis can also occur in men and women who have never been pregnant. Other risk factors include significant weight gain, obesity, advanced age which can cause muscle weakness and abdominal wall distension. Physical activities that overuse the abdominal muscles can also cause diastasis.

Symptoms of rectus diastasis

There are several reasons why a person may choose to have rectus diastasis surgery:

Why is it necessary to have rectus diastasis surgery?

Reduce symptoms: Diastasis rectus can cause chronic pain in the abdominal area, posture problems and muscle weakness. Surgery can help reduce these symptoms by repairing weakened abdominal muscles.

Improve Appearance: Diastasis rectus can also cause the abdominal wall to bulge or protrude, giving the appearance of a “buoy” belly. Surgery can help flatten the stomach and improve the overall appearance of the abdominal area.

Restore abdominal function: Diastasis rectus can weaken the abdominal muscles, which can impact the person’s ability to perform daily movements and activities. Surgery can help restore strength and function to the abdominal muscles.

Repair damage caused during multiple pregnancies: Diastasis recti is common after pregnancy, especially after multiple pregnancies. Surgery can help repair damage to abdominal muscles during pregnancy.

Diastasis treatment of the rectus abdominis is usually performed during an abdominoplasty.

How is rectus diastasis surgery carried out?

The surgical procedure to correct diastasis recti is performed under general anesthesia and may require hospitalization for a few days. Here is how the rectus diastasis treatment generally takes place in surgery:

1. Preparation: The patient is prepared in the operating room, and the anesthesiologist administers general anesthesia to ensure comfort and freedom from pain during the procedure.

2. Incisions: the surgeon makes incisions on the abdominal wall, usually horizontally above the pubis. The size and location of the incisions may vary depending on the specific needs of the patient.

3. Muscle repair: Once the incisions are made, the surgeon identifies the rectus abdominis muscles and brings them together using sutures or stitches. This step helps reduce the gap and strengthen the muscles.

4. Excess skin: If necessary, the surgeon can also remove excess skin and fat from the abdominal wall to achieve a smoother, toned contour.

5. Closing the incisions: Once muscle repair and removal of excess skin is complete, the surgeon closes the incisions using sutures or surgical staples.

6. Recovery: after surgery, the patient is monitored in the recovery room to ensure their stability. Pain medications may be given to ease post-operative discomfort.

7. Postoperative Care: The patient is usually encouraged to rest and recover at home for several weeks after surgery. Follow-up consultations are planned to check the condition of the incisions and to assess the progress of healing.

It is important to note that each patient is unique and the procedure may vary depending on individual needs. It is therefore essential to consult Dr. Duclos for specific information on the procedure and postoperative care. Diastasis rectus surgery is generally considered a cosmetic procedure and is not always covered by health insurance.

In some cases, specific rehabilitation exercises can help reduce the space between muscles and strengthen the abdominal wall. In more severe cases or if symptoms persist, surgery may be necessary to repair the abdominal muscles.

Belkyra, the current flagship solution for contouring the neck and chin without surgery!

Previously the only way to correct a double chin was through surgery. Today, science is innovating and we offer you the Belkyra method, also called Kybella.

What is Belkyra really?

Belkyra is a non-surgical treatment offering permanent results. It is an innovation in cosmetic surgery aimed at eliminating fat from the underchin and thus improving the profile of the chin, neck and face.

It is the only injection treatment that has been approved by Health Canada. Its goal is to target and eliminate fat cells (adipose cells) which are located under the chin.

Belkyra, what is this revolutionary treatment?

The Belkyra treatment consists of giving you several injections spread over several sessions. This is a chemical compound called ATX-101 which is better known as deoxycholic. To be more explicit, it is a natural component that is already present in the body. Its purpose is to dissolve fats in our stomach allowing our body to absorb them. This component therefore has the role of dissolving fat. And once injected, all your skin cells remain intact. And it has been proven to be the only treatment that has left skin unchanged.

Belkyra therefore dissolves the fat which is subcutaneous, inducing its gradual elimination. Deoxycholic acts by inducing epidermal tightening leading to better definition of the skin with better tone. It treats in a natural and sustainable way.

This treatment has been subjected to 20 clinical studies and has treated more than 1,800 satisfied people all over the world. According to these studies, Belkyra is a reliable and effective treatment for treating a double chin.

Who is the Belkyra treatment for?

Belkyra treatment is suitable for adult women and men. Whether for overweight people of any age wishing to get rid of fat under the chin which cannot be eliminated with weight loss diets and sport. These fat cells in most cases come from your genetic heritage.

Belkrya is primarily intended for people with mild to moderate roundness under the chin.

What does the Belkyra treatment actually consist of?

The first step is to meet with you to assess the approximate number of treatments needed to improve your appearance. Then you come regularly to have the Belkyra treatment injected directly under the chin.

Each session lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes. These injections are performed without anesthesia. But before each of these injections, ice is applied to the area to be treated.

Generally the treatment is done in 3 sessions but this obviously depends on each person’s case.

How is a double chin formed?

A double chin can affect people who are at a healthy weight. It cannot therefore be associated with weight gain in an individual. In some cases, it appears in individuals with genetic predisposition factors. And in other cases the double chin is due to aging.

This fatty mass under the chin is unsightly and can make you look older and heavier.

What are the side effects of Belkyra treatment?

There are side effects of Belkyra injection treatment. But which are minimal because they usually only last a few days. Frequently after each injection you will have:

Swelling

A numbness

A pain

A bruise

Some redness

Skin sensitivity

These side effects mainly occur after the first treatment. They then decrease after each subsequent injection. To reduce these side effects, it is recommended to apply a cold compress to the affected area.

The risks that may bother you are difficulty swallowing after each injection.

What are the benefits of Belkyra treatment?

The advantage with this treatment is that there is no:

Surgery

No incision

No downtime

The result is permanent

How do the results of the Belkyra treatment look?

The result of Belkyra treatment is visible quickly after each session. You will therefore notice an improvement with each session. These results are long-lasting because the destruction of fat cells is irreversible. And following the destruction of these, this causes a reaction in the deep tissues of the skin which can improve the elasticity of the skin.

What do patients who have undergone Belkyra treatment say?

According to the feedback from each patient, we could see that more than 80% are completely satisfied! They are happy with the new appearance of their face, neck and chin. They say they have better self-esteem and are happier. They feel rejuvenated and look better and are no longer self-conscious about the appearance of their chin.

Belkyra is therefore the only adapted and tailor-made treatment to eliminate your double chin.

Who can benefit from pectoral implants?

The installation of pectoral implants is mainly aimed at mature men whose chest has become sagging or at young men who do not obtain the results they desire with bodybuilding. The result of this operation, which must be carried out by a cosmetic surgeon, is the increase in the volume of the pectorals and is visible immediately after the procedure. The torso then presents natural-looking muscularity with well-defined pectorals: the implants blend into the silhouette while redefining it. The surgery is not very painful and leaves virtually no scars.

This act of cosmetic surgery can also be reconstructive, as in cases of breast malformations or anomalies such as asymmetry (difference in shape) between the two pectorals, hypotrophy (insufficient development) or aplasia (absence) of a pectoral muscle as for example in Poland syndrome.

The male torso

The pectoral region is made up of 3 muscles: the pectoralis major, the pectoralis minor and the subclavius. The pectoral major covers the other two and it is this which is outlined under the skin. Bodybuilding exercises aim to develop these large pectorals because they help give the torso its toned and masculine silhouette.

But the pectoral muscles do not always respond as we would like to bodybuilding, however regular or intensive it may be. It is all the more common in thin subjects. An accident or illness can also leave an individual with after-effects, for example preventing them from doing push-ups or lifting weights.

In these various cases, the placement of implants could prove to be the ideal solution: quick and painless, it allows the torso to be sculpted and harmonized in a natural and lasting way by increasing volume, projection and curve of the pectoral area.

Preoperative consultation

The preliminary consultation allows the client to ask any questions they wish about the surgery and anesthesia, possible risks or complications, contraindications or medications and postoperative recommendations from the practitioner.
This preliminary interview also allows him to express his wishes regarding the size and projection of the implant.
The healthcare professional, on the other hand, will suggest the prosthesis best suited to the size of his client’s pectoralis major and will advise him on the shape of the prosthesis: rather rectangular or rather oval.
A moderate projection and oval shape will create a natural contour; an accentuated projection and a rectangular shape will give a more athletic appearance.

Made from very resistant silicone, the implants are well tolerated by the body. However, we recommend changing them after ten years.

Are there any contraindications?

Contraindications are, among others: psychological disorders, chronic illnesses, coronary or respiratory problems. The preoperative medical evaluation carried out by the surgeon (examination, complete health check-up with blood tests, family history, etc.) allows the doctor to check that there are no contraindications to the operation and to rule out all risk.

Duration of the intervention

The procedure lasts approximately 1h30.

Anesthesia

The procedure is done under general anesthesia.

The intervention

The procedure consists of first making an incision of approximately 5 cm “sub-axillary”, that is to say under the arm, in a fold of the armpit.
The surgeon then inserts the silicone prosthesis in the “retro-pectoral” position, that is to say between the ribs and the pectoralis major muscle. The operation ends with the placement of absorbable stitches; no drain is necessary. Pain treatment and wearing a compression chest sleeve will be prescribed.

Operative consequences

The appearance of edema and bruising is completely normal in the first few days, as is discomfort when raising the arms; all of which could last a few weeks. The pain itself is well controlled by analgesics. The chest sleeve or compression bra must be worn for 2 to 4 weeks, night and day. A follow-up visit will be scheduled in the days following the procedure.

Daily activities can resume normally after 1 week, professional activity after 1 or 2 weeks; a gentle exercise such as walking can also be resumed without long delay, but you will have to wait 2 to 3 months before resuming more intense sports.
Pectoral prostheses can be worn for life or removed at the patient’s request.

Convincing results

The scars are completely invisible because they are hidden in the fold of the armpit.
It takes between 4 and 6 weeks to be able to appreciate the final result.

What are the risks?

Risks include: risks commonly associated with anesthesia, movement of the prosthesis, general numbness, loss of sensation, bruising, accumulation of serous fluid (seroma) or infection.

Alternatives to implant placement

Other techniques allow the increase of the pectoral area in men, but they are not permanent.
Hyaluronic acid padding
The hyaluronic acid (HA) molecule is naturally present in the body. This will be injected above the pectoral muscle, into the deeper layers of the skin. For the pectorals, we use a more cross-linked (thicker) acid than the one injected into the lips. The effects are immediate but not permanent (around 1 year).
Lipofilling (or lipomodeling)
This technique consists of self-grafting fatty tissue from the patient in the part of his body that we wish to enlarge. It is sometimes combined with the placement of implants.

Why choose lower eyelid blepharoplasty?

Our gaze is the reflection of our soul and the eyes are determining elements in facial expression. They express our emotions and our vitality. From the age of forty, the eyes undergo transformations. Indeed, with aging, the skin loses its elasticity and becomes loose, the underlying muscles weaken, and pigmentation changes appear. Eyelids droop, wilt, orbital fat swells, and bags or blisters appear under the eyes. These transformations give off an expression of sadness or weariness which does not always correspond to our inner state. Cosmetic eyelid surgery aims to correct these common problems in order to improve the appearance of the eyes and consequently the entire face.

Transconjunctival lower eyelid blepharoplasty specifically helps refresh and revitalize the face by reducing blisters and swelling of bags under the eyes. It consists of a transconjunctival incision inside the lower eyelids. The scars left by these incisions are not visible since they are hidden in the natural folds of the eyelids.

The intervention

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is usually completed in about an hour. Anesthesia is performed locally with sedation, therefore without general anesthesia. It is done on an outpatient basis, that is to say without hospitalization. You will return home the same day to rest.
The sutures are made with very fine threads which are usually non-absorbable.
Blepharoplasty can be combined with another facial cosmetic surgery procedure: facial lifting, peeling, dermabrasion for an optimal rejuvenating effect.

Before the procedure

Before the operation, the surgeon studies the excess fat you have around the eyelid and notes any asymmetries. He will discuss with you your expectations and the results he can obtain. He will also explain the potential risks to you.
The purpose of the preoperative examination before a lower blepharoplasty is to detect problems that could modify the surgical plan. An examination of the lacrimal system is necessary to avoid dry eye problems that an intervention could worsen. Any anticoagulant medication must be stopped at least one week before the procedure. Any known hypertension problem should be reported to avoid postoperative bleeding. Coagulation or blood pressure disorders must be stabilized before the procedure. You should also tell your surgeon if you have glaucoma, retinal detachment, thyroid disorders, or diabetes.

Convalescence

Just after the operation, you will not really feel any pain but a little discomfort with a feeling of tension or sagging of the eyelids, itching, tearing or dryness. These sensations are normal and only last a few days.

The duration and extent of bruising and swelling varies from person to person. Bruising usually disappears in seven to ten days and swelling in about two weeks. The stitches are removed five to seven days after surgery and makeup can be applied 24 hours after the stitches are removed.
It is better to rest for a few days after surgery. Professional activities can be resumed approximately one week after the procedure but any physical work and/or sporting activity should be avoided for approximately three weeks. Physically light work is permitted (light housekeeping).
The operated eyelid regains a normal appearance after one to two months and its natural suppleness after six months. Healing for eyelid surgeries is therefore rapid since the results are visible within a few weeks. They are durable and the surgery rarely needs to be repeated over a lifetime. The scars are almost imperceptible in most patients.

After blepharoplasty, it is recommended to limit aging factors other than age such as the sun, tobacco and alcohol. It is important to protect the incisions from the sun by using sunglasses and/or high protection sunscreen.

Complications

Surgery always carries certain risks, but complications resulting from eyelid surgery are rare: infection, bleeding, dry eyes, pain, downward rolling of the lower eyelid (ectropio), sensory changes, skin necrosis, asymmetry, numbness, weakness of muscles or nerves, loss of sensation, loss of movement, inability to close your eyes completely. It is therefore important to follow the surgeon’s advice carefully in order to prevent risks.
To reduce the risk of complications, the importance of the preoperative assessment and the need for clear and precise information on the risks, possibilities and limits of surgery must be emphasized. It must be remembered that even a simple surgical procedure always involves an element of hazard.

Who can be a candidate for blepharoplasty?

Transconjunctival blepharoplasty can be offered to a patient with dark circles or bags and whose eyes generally have a tired appearance. The intervention will aim to refresh their appearance. It can be performed on non-smoking adult men or women with healthy facial tissue. It is generally aimed at fairly young subjects with pockets without excess skin.

Conclusion

Lower blepharoplasty is a common plastic surgery procedure, frequently performed on both men and women. Recovery is relatively quick. The procedure gives good results, stable for several years, with minimal risks of complications. It is performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis.

The mini abdominoplasty is a variation of the classic abdominoplasty. This procedure aims to tighten or rejuvenate the lower abdomen region only. It consists of removing excess skin and fat from the suprapubic region (below the navel).

The advantage of a mini abdominoplasty is that the incision is made very low on the abdomen, just above the pubis, which means that the scar is very discreet and easily concealed by clothing.

The mini abdominoplasty, like the classic abdominoplasty, acts on three anatomical levels:

on the skin, removing excess.

on fat by refining the thickness of the abdominal wall through liposuction

on the muscles by tightening the abdominal muscles

Mini abdominoplasty is usually performed when the main problem is excess skin, although there may also be excess fat.

Mini abdominoplasty is indicated when there is:

excess skin below the navel, but no or minor excess skin above the navel.

muscle relaxation predominant below the navel, but muscle relaxation absent or barely rising a few centimeters above the navel.

If the excess skin and sagging are located above the navel, then a classic abdominoplasty should be used.

Who can benefit from a mini abdominoplasty?

Anyone who suffers from a sagging lower abdomen:

Women after childbirth
It is common for some women that the skin of the lower abdomen is no longer able to contract to return to its pre-pregnancy state and remains distended despite diets or physical exercises.

The formerly obese
It often happens that the skin becomes loose following weight loss. If it is mainly under the navel, the mini abdominoplasty can be useful.

Elderly people
The mini abdominoplasty helps correct sagging skin and muscles due to aging.

Classic abdominoplasty or mini abdominoplasty?

Sagging skin rarely occurs only under the navel. This is why the mini abdominoplasty is much less frequently performed than the classic abdominoplasty.

In the mini abdominoplasty, the peeling of the skin only concerns the skin below the navel and does not go beyond, whereas in the abdominoplasty, the peeling of the skin goes up to the ribs and the sternum.

In the mini abdominoplasty, the navel may be slightly lowered. There will be no scarring around the navel unless muscle tightening above the navel is performed.

If the scar is slightly shorter in the mini abdominoplasty, this does not mean that the mini abdominoplasty only leaves a mini scar.

The results of the mini abdominoplasty

The post-operative aftermath is simple. The definitive result is obtained three months after the operation, when the edema has disappeared.

It is rare that the placement of a drain is necessary because the internal sutures between the fat and the muscle speed up the healing process. If a drain is placed, it is generally removed the day after the procedure.

You should know that in men the hair at the excision site will be thinning after surgery.

Before the procedure

It is recommended to stop:
Tobacco consumption at least 2 weeks before and after surgery. Nicotine prevents oxygenation of the skin and other tissues and can contribute to tissue necrosis.
Taking aspirin or anti-inflammatories two weeks before and after the procedure. Anti-inflammatories and aspirin thin the blood and can cause significant bleeding during or after surgery. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is safe to use.
Alcohol consumption in all its forms three weeks before and two weeks after surgery. Alcohol can cause bleeding during or after surgery.

The intervention

The mini abdominoplasty is performed under light general anesthesia.

It generally lasts 1h15 to 1h45.

An incision is made above the pubis and the skin is raised to above the navel on each side. The navel remains intact, no incision is made there. If the muscles under the skin show laxity or diastasis (separation), they will be tightened or brought together with stitches.

The excess skin is pulled down, and the amount to be removed is then determined. The incision is closed with stitches under and in the skin that leave fewer marks. Sutures on the skin are avoided whenever possible. Then a light dressing is applied.
After the intervention
The threads are absorbable.
A compression garment or abdominal girdle must be worn throughout the healing period, which is approximately one month.

You should also avoid activities that can raise blood pressure such as cleaning, vacuuming, leaning your head forward, washing the bathtub, lifting heavy objects, etc.
Physical activities can usually be resumed one month after surgery.

It takes about three months for the final result.

Possible complications

Decreased sensitivity in the skin
Skin that has been peeled off to be tightened may lose its sensitivity. This will in principle return after six months, but it may happen that the reduction in sensitivity is permanent.
Necrosis (tissue loss) (rare)
This problem is often caused by nicotine. Also an infection or accumulation of fluid under the newly stretched skin can cause tissue necrosis.

Poor healing

Everyone heals differently. In some rare cases, the scars enlarge and become more visible.
